All grades can access practice tracks at mcdonaldmusic.weebly.com 1st Quarter Emphasis Dear K-2 Parents, 1st Quarter has been spent emphasizing the first of the Idaho Fine Arts Standards, Creating. Students are exploring and experimenting with rhythm, pitch, textures, and form with the goal of creating their own choices and explaining WHY they are making various musical decisions. They are learning to notate and read music at their appropriate grade level, sometimes through music notation, sometimes through iconic symbols creating a visual representation of a sound they are creating.
2nd Quarter Emphasis 2nd Quarter will turn to the 2nd and 4th Fine Arts Standards, Performing and Connecting. K-2 students will be preparing for a holiday performance but will be expected to put their own creative touches on songs they will be learning and identifying why composers created music for a specific purpose. Kindergarten is exploring the sounds of the voice and showing the difference between high/low, slow/fast, soft/loud. Grade 1 works towards identifying similar qualities but doing so with less teacher support and Grade 2 incorporates instrument playing and music reading into their learning.
